Baseball Recap: Catholic Crusaders vs. Walsingham Academy Trojans
Catholic had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it five. They came up short against the Walsingham Academy Trojans, falling 12-5. If the Crusaders were looking for revenge after losing 13-3 to the Trojans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Noah Woods was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Stone Soleau, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
As for Walsingham Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-8-1. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
On Walsingham Academy's side, Daniel Guntherberg made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Guntherberg was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Chandler Howlett was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since April 3rd. Edward Holstrom also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Catholic has already played their next contest, a 4-0 victory against Peninsula Catholic on the 30th. As for Walsingham Academy, they will challenge Norfolk Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans are facing the Mighty Oaks at the right time seeing as the Mighty Oaks are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
