Basketball Recap: Knightstown Takes a Loss

Knightstown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They came up short against the Southwestern Spartans, falling 72-52. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Knightstown saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aaron Mefford posted 11 points and five boards. Mefford continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lucas Stanley, who put up seven points.

Even though they lost, Knightstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Knightstown's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Southwestern, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season.

Knightstown has already played their next match, a 61-45 defeat against Hagerstown on the 22nd. As for Southwestern, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-51 win against North Decatur on the 21st.
