Softball Game Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Shadow Ridge Mustangs

Basic hasn't had much luck against Shadow Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wolves will head out on the road to challenge the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m.

Basic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Bishop Gorman by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Shadow Ridge faced Green Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Gators. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won four in a row.

Shadow Ridge got a massive performance out of Rosely Hensley-Mokiao, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Hensley-Mokiao a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Chloe Covington, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-5.

Shadow Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Valley only posted an OBP of .344.

Basic's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Shadow Ridge, their record is now 11-3.

Basic suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Shadow Ridge when the teams last played back in February. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
