Basketball Recap: Mater Lakes Academy's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mater Lakes Academy had won two straight games and Vanessa Vancott did her part to make it three on Thursday. Everything went the Mater Lakes Academy Bears' way against the Westminster Christian Warriors as the Mater Lakes Academy Bears made off with a 71-46 victory thanks in part to Vancott, who dropped a double-double on 38 points and 18 rebounds. Her evening made it 22 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Lorena Fernandez was another key player, going 6 of 15 on her way to 16 points and four blocks. Those four blocks gave her a new career-high.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Angelina Fernandez, who posted 21 points. That was a full 45.7% of Westminster Christian's points, marking the 19th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Palczynski, who had 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Westminster Christian, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-9.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Mater Lakes Academy will face off against Mourning on Thursday.
