Emmaus has gone a perfect 6-0 against Louis E. Dieruff recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Hornets will look to defend their home field against the Huskies at 4:00 p.m.
Emmaus easily dispatched East Stroudsburg North on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Hornets fell just short of Liberty by a score of 8-6 on Tuesday. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Hurricanes recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Emmaus got a good showing from Ryan Hummell, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hummell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Josh Diaz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Aaron Fleetwood was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Louis E. Dieruff, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They came out on top against William Allen on Tuesday by a score of 4-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted against the Canaries since April 6, 2021.
Jean Varela made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Varela was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryan Dejesus, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Cy Oliver, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Emmaus' loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Louis E. Dieruff, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Louis E. Dieruff's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Emmaus has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Louis E. Dieruff, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2 strikeouts. Will Emmaus keep running through batters, or will the Huskies buck the trend?
Everything went Emmaus' way against Louis E. Dieruff when the teams last played back in March of 2023, as Emmaus made off with a 15-1 win. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
