Baseball Game Preview: Thurston Eagles vs. Annapolis Cougars

Thurston hasn't had much luck against Annapolis recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Thurston has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Thurston's offense. They came up short against Garden City on Wednesday, falling 15-0. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Annapolis had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Tractors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since May 20, 2024.

Julian Cunningham made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cunningham was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Xavier Raspberry was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Foreman, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Annapolis pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Thurston, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Thurston might still be hurting after the 16-4 loss they got from Annapolis in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
