Preview: Medicine Valley Raiders vs. Bertrand Vikings
Medicine Valley and Bertrand are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Medicine Valley Raiders on the road again on Monday and play against the Bertrand Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Saturday, Medicine Valley ended up a good deal behind Southwest and lost 53-36. Medicine Valley has not had much luck with Southwest recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Medicine Valley's loss came about despite a quality game from Stella Heapy, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Heapy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Remmi Stout, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Bertrand's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Southern Valley on the road and fell 64-28. While losing is never fun, Bertrand can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Southern Valley is ranked 13th).
Medicine Valley's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Bertrand, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Medicine Valley strolled past Bertrand in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 48-31. Will Medicine Valley repeat their success, or does Bertrand have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
