MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings

A new No. 1 team emerges for the second consecutive week, as Elder knocked off St. Edward to put Don Bosco Prep on top.

For the second time in two weeks, the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard endured a stunning upset.

This time, it was St. Edward, which took a four-hour bus ride to take on Elder in "The Pit," the team's famous, rowdy home stadium. St. Edward struggled and eventually lost 21-14.

That paves the way for Don Bosco Prep to take the No. 1 spot, though its tenure could be short.

Don Bosco Prep's victory over St. Thomas Aquinas lost some of its luster when Aquinas struggled against Miramar before ultimately pulling out a victory. Additionally, a decisive outcome in the matchup of St. John Bosco and Bishop Gorman could be enough to skyrocket either team to the top of the rankings.

No. 2 Allen is also a threat to claim the top spot, as the team's defense put forth its best outing of the season in a 42-3 victory over Plano.
