Baseball Game Preview: Keene Blackbirds vs. Nashua North Titans

The Keene Blackbirds will face off against the Nashua North Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last five games Keene has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Keene turned things around against Bedford on Friday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blackbirds have posted since April 16th.

Fitch Hennessey was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run. He is becoming a predictor of Keene's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

Hennessey wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden French, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Nashua North ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Nashua South. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Purple Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Keene's record is now 8-9. As for Nashua North, their record now sits at 6-12.

Keene couldn't quite finish off Nashua North when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Blackbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
