Basketball Recap: Gilmour Academy Triumphs

Gilmour Academy hadn't done well against Villa Angela-St. Joseph recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Gilmour Academy Lancers escaped with a win against the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings by the margin of a single free throw, 75-74. This was payback for the Lancers, who suffered a 75-70 loss the last time these two teams met.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jullian Council, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points. The dominant performance also gave Council a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Antonio Brown, who went 6 for 11 en route to 13 points.

Gilmour Academy has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Villa Angela-St. Joseph, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Gilmour Academy and Villa Angela-St. Joseph should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Gilmour Academy will take on Benedictine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 196 places (126 vs. 322). Similarly, Villa Angela-St. Joseph (ranked 168th) will meet John F. Kennedy (ranked 490th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
