Basketball Recap: Fernadez Witherspoon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lake City over Marion

Lake City was the 44-36 winner over Marion when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Lake City Panthers fell 54-43 to the Marion Swamp Foxes on Thursday.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Fernadez Witherspoon, who posted nine points. Witherspoon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Devin Cockfield, who scored eight points and 11 boards.

Marion can attribute much of their success to Charles White Jr, who earned 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That's the most points White Jr has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jameir Legette, who had eight points and five boards.

Lake City dropped their record down to 9-9 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Marion, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-14.

Lake City has already played their next match, a 69-34 defeat against Philip Simmons on the 18th. As for Marion, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-67 loss against Burke on the 18th.
