Basketball Game Preview: Weldon Valley Warriors vs. Prairie Mustangs

Weldon Valley is 1-9 against Prairie since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Weldon Valley Warriors will be playing at home against the Prairie Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Weldon Valley will be strutting in after a win while Prairie will be coming in after a loss.

Weldon Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 71-43 victory over Twin Peaks Classical Academy. With the Warriors ahead 43-21 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Weldon Valley's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Annie Onufrak, who went 6-for-12 en route to 16 points and five boards. Onufrak is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 16 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Skylar Scott, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.

Weldon Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Prairie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 41-35 heartbreaker at the hands of Caliche.

Weldon Valley's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-11. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points over those games. As for Prairie, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.

Weldon Valley was taken down by Prairie 61-18 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Weldon Valley was down 39-6.
