Tamaqua has gone a perfect 7-0 against Mahanoy Area recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders will head out to face off against the Golden Bears at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Tamaqua is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Lehighton with a sharp 13-1 win on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
The team relied heavily on Molly Evans, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Kolbe Robb also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Tamaqua was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Mahanoy Area made sure to put some runs up on the board against Shenandoah Valley on Friday. The Golden Bears never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Golden Bears' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Lilly Carl made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carl was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Urijah Fazio was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Naomi Kowalick was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Tamaqua now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Mahanoy Area, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-3 record.
Mahanoy Area's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Tamaqua has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mahanoy Area, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Tamaqua keep running through batters, or will the Golden Bears buck the trend?
Tamaqua was able to grind out a solid win over Mahanoy Area in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Blue Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Bears turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
