Basketball Game Preview: Ash Fork Spartans vs. Rock Point Cougars

Ash Fork is 0-4 against Rock Point since December of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Spartans just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Ash Fork is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Ash Fork will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Williams, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Spartans walked away with a 28-17 win over the Vikings on Friday. The Spartans' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Ash Fork's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Isabella Acosta, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 steals, and Gracie Staples, who posted eight points and 13 boards. Acosta is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 20 games she's played dating back to last season.

Ash Fork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Rock Point was beaten by Whitehorse 78-44 on Tuesday.

Ash Fork's record is now 8-0. As for Rock Point, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Ash Fork might still be hurting after the 52-32 defeat they got from Rock Point in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
