Baseball Recap: Port Charlotte Gets the Win

Port Charlotte was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Sarasota Sailors 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Sailors back in February, they had to take a 4-1 defeat.

Brock Budreau made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Port Charlotte: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 8-13 otherwise. Budreau was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Budreau wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Reed Backstrom, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Port Charlotte's win bumped their record up to 10-14. As for Sarasota, they moved to 19-5-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Port Charlotte wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 defeat against Cypress Lake on the 14th. As for Sarasota, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-1 victory against Riverview Sarasota on the 15th.
