Orange Park has gone 7-2 against Bishop Snyder recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Orange Park Raiders are taking a road trip to challenge the Bishop Snyder Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with eight defeats in a row dating back to last season, Orange Park turned things around against Bolles on Friday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 9-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Avery Louque spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Zoe Pascoe, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Addison Toledo was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Orange Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Bishop Snyder entered their tilt with Bolles on Tuesday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 15-0 shutout. While the Cardinals didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Caitlyn Boshell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Chloe Gotto was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Juliana Roldan, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Bishop Snyder's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Orange Park, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Orange Park hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Bishop Snyder struggles in that department as they've averaged .414. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Orange Park might still be hurting after the 17-4 loss they got from Bishop Snyder in their previous meeting back in February. Can Orange Park avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
