Softball Recap: Sebastian River Triumphs

Sebastian River won against Melbourne Central Catholic last Thursday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Sebastian River Sharks had just enough and edged out the Franklin Regional Panthers 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sharks have posted since April 25, 2024.

Kiera Carow made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rily Biggers, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Layla McKinney was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Sebastian River is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. Franklin Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sebastian River will challenge Treasure Coast at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th. Treasure Coast is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Franklin Regional, they will face off against Plum at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
