Basketball Recap: Nonnewaug Comes Up Short

Nonnewaug lost against Shepaug Valley back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Nonnewaug Chiefs took an 82-74 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shepaug Valley Spartans. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Reed Woerner was his usual excellent self, shooting 8-for-13 from downtown and almost dropping a double-double on 40 points and nine rebounds for Shepaug Valley. The matchup was Woerner's 17th in a row with at least 20 points. James Kersten was another key player, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten boards.

Nonnewaug's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Shepaug Valley, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nonnewaug will head out to take on Housatonic-Lakeview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Shepaug Valley, they will venture away from home to challenge Terryville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
