Baseball Recap: Montgomery Comes Up Short

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Montgomery's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Ysidro Cougars on Wednesday. Aztecs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Wednesday.

Jesus Cano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

Montgomery has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for San Ysidro, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-9.

While Montgomery had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
