Basketball Game Preview: Poly Bears vs. Moreau Catholic Mariners

The Poly Bears will venture away from home to face off against the Moreau Catholic Mariners at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Poly sitting on five straight wins and Moreau Catholic on 12.

Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Poly against Hillcrest as the team secured a 62-32 victory. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Trojans are ranked 314th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Moreau Catholic on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew American out of the water with a 96-23 final score. The Mariners have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 27 points or more this season.

Poly better keep an eye on Kellen Hampton. He was instrumental in Moreau Catholic's win, going 12 for 15 on his way to 26 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Clendinen, who posted eight points along with seven assists and three steals.

Moreau Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Poly's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Moreau Catholic, their record now sits at 13-2.
