Softball Recap: New Paltz Has No Trouble Against Roosevelt

New Paltz hadn't done well against Roosevelt recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Huguenots blew past the Presidents 16-2. The result was nothing new for the Huguenots, who have now won six matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Ella Gates spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Molly Saunders, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Morales, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs.

New Paltz always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

New Paltz has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Paltz will square off against Wallkill at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Roosevelt, they will face off against Spackenkill at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Presidents' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
