Softball Recap: Taft Takes Down Johnson in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Taft had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Johnson Jaguars on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won three in a row.

Alyssa Rangel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jacelyn Parks, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kaylee Sanchez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

Taft was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in three consecutive games.

Taft's win bumped their record up to 19-7. As for Johnson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-7.

Taft will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Jaguars: the pair will be back at it again later today.
