Soccer Game Preview: East Duplin vs. Southwest Onslow

The East Duplin Panthers will head out to face off against the Southwest Onslow Stallions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

East Duplin is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering White Oak just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1.

Meanwhile, Southwest Onslow had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 goals) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. Give Southwest Onslow's defense some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.

Jaime Maguire and Haley Smith scored both of Southwest Onslow's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

Southwest Onslow's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those five games. As for East Duplin, they now have a losing record of 5-6-2.

Everything went East Duplin's way against Southwest Onslow in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as East Duplin made off with a 5-1 victory. In that contest, East Duplin amassed a halftime lead of 4-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
