Nicolet and Whitefish Bay are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Knights will host the Blue Dukes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Nicolet comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Nicolet is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Slinger on Thursday, falling 14-2. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by exactly 12 runs.
Victoria Jewell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. She also put up a run, which was her first of the season.
Whitefish Bay not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 21, 2024 (when they won 21-0). They were the clear victors by an 18-4 margin over Martin Luther. The Blue Dukes have beaten the Spartans the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.
Abby Fay made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jane Wallace, who fired off two triples, five RBI, and three runs while going 5-for-5. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ansley Elia, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Whitefish Bay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Nicolet's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Whitefish Bay, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
Nicolet suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Whitefish Bay in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
