After a string of six wins, Haywood's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of the Madison Mustangs by a score of 3-2. The Tomcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Haywood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Smoot, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Haywood's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Madison, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

While Haywood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
