Recap: Effingham Flaming Hearts vs. Charleston Trojans

The Effingham Flaming Hearts's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 18th straight loss. The matchup between Effingham and Charleston wasn't particularly close, with Effingham falling 55-41. Effingham has not had much luck with Charleston recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Charleston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Nelson led the charge by scoring 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nelson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Oakley, who scored eight points.

Effingham's defeat dropped their record down to 2-22. As for Charleston, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Effingham will be playing in front of their home fans against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine is ranked 587th, while Effingham is ranked 586th). Charleston will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Charleston likes a good challenge.
