Canyon gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the University Trojans 83-43. The Comanches pushed the score to 66-41 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans had little chance of recovering from.
Canyon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dean Dohrmann, who shot 54% from the field on his way to 21 points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rami Awad, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 21 points and four steals.
Canyon was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They racked up six more assists than University's also-impressive total of 12.
When it comes to explaining why University lost, don't look at Abdallah Shami. Despite the final result, he shot 80% from the field en route to 17 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Lucas Haun, who posted eight points.
