Basketball Game Preview: Lathrop Spartans vs. Beyer Patriots

The Lathrop Spartans will take on the Beyer Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lathrop is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season.

Last Wednesday, Lathrop came up short against Central Valley and fell 63-51.

Lathrop's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Caiden Wisnieski, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards, and Bryan Gamboa, who posted 11 points and five rebounds. The contest was Wisnieski's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Patel, who scored five points.

Meanwhile, Beyer had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 66-42 victory. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Lathrop's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-11. As for Beyer, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Lathrop came up short against Beyer in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 47-41. Can Lathrop avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
