Preview: Versailles Tigers vs. Smith-Cotton Tigers
Versailles is 6-1 against Smith-Cotton since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Versailles Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Smith-Cotton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Versailles has five straight victories, Smith-Cotton has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Osage scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Versailles still came out on top. Versailles strolled past Osage with points to spare, taking the game 73-57. Given Versailles' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Osage is ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ryder Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 36 points along with nine rebounds. The contest was Williams' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tristan Albrecht, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Smith-Cotton was beaten by Hickman 51-24 on Wednesday.
Versailles pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Smith-Cotton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Versailles beat Smith-Cotton 65-55 in their previous matchup back in January. Will Versailles repeat their success, or does Smith-Cotton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
