Baseball Recap: Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering Has No Trouble Against Booker T. Washington

Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They blew past the Booker T. Washington Warriors 21-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Phoenix considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Tommy Downey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Downey was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

In other pitching news, Courtney Edwards looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kristian Smith, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Bryant, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.

The victory got Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering will head out to challenge Craigmont at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Booker T. Washington will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Middle College at 5:00 p.m. on April 2nd.
