Softball Recap: Roosevelt Presidents vs. New Paltz Huguenots
Roosevelt extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 16-2 to the New Paltz Huguenots. The Presidents were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huguenots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Roosevelt saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kristeen Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Olivia Jahoda also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
As for New Paltz, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. Considering they have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On New Paltz's side, Ella Gates spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. Gates has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Molly Saunders, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Bella Morales was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and three runs.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Roosevelt will take on rival Spackenkill at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, New Paltz is set to face off against their familiar foe Wallkill at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
