Baseball Recap: Clearwater Central Catholic Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carrollwood Day, Clearwater Central Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the St. Francis Red Raiders. That's more bragging rights for the Marauders, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Philip Skorewicz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He is becoming a predictor of Clearwater Central Catholic's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 5-15 when he doesn't). Skorewicz was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Skorewicz wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Luke Brkljacic, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Joey Sweeney also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Clearwater Central Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-16 record this season. As for St. Francis, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Clearwater Central Catholic didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-4 win against Bell Creek Academy on the 14th. As for St. Francis, they have also already played their next contest, an 11-11 draw against Citizens Christian Academy on the 11th.
