Softball Recap: Mccollum Extends Winning Streak to Three

McCollum had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Southwest Legacy on Saturday. The Cowboys blew past the Titans 15-5. Considering the Cowboys have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

RUIZ MADELYNN spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, MARTINEZ LAUREN was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of SORAYA TORRES, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

LAUREN wasn't the only one making solid contact: McCollum kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory was the third in a row for McCollum, bringing their record up to 16-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest Legacy, they dropped their record down to 3-17 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coincidentally, McCollum and Southwest Legacy will both be playing Southwest the next time they take the field. The Titans will head out to face the Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Cowboys will head out to face them at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
