Basketball Game Preview: Seymour Eagles vs. Northview Academy Cougars

Seymour is 0-10 against Northview Academy since February of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Seymour Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northview Academy Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Seymour is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season.

Seymour is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Cocke County on Tuesday. Seymour received a blow as they fell 64-47 to Cocke County. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Fighting Cocks 19-14 in the first quarter.

Despite the defeat, Seymour saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Talon Pederson posted 15 points and seven rebounds. Pederson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was David Canterbury, who had 11 points.

Even though they lost, Seymour smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Northview Academy didn't have too much trouble with Grainger on Tuesday as they won 63-44. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Seymour's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Northview Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
