Football Game Preview: Armstrong (Kennedy) Wildcats vs. Poquoson Islanders

The Armstrong (Kennedy) Wildcats will square off against the Poquoson Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Armstrong (Kennedy) will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Armstrong (Kennedy) is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Thomas Jefferson by a score of 20-13. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Wildcats were the (much) better team in the second half.

Armstrong (Kennedy)'s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Hansom led the charge by throwing for 142 yards and one touchdown on only 13 passes, while also rushing for 38 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Shadarus Pickett, who rushed for 56 yards and one TD.

Armstrong (Kennedy) didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Thomas Jefferson to a completion percentage of just 40.9%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Ronald Jackson, Teon Roane, Aladin Simms, and Nazir Adams, who each logged one passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Armstrong (Kennedy); they were averaging 64.9%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 64.9%.

Armstrong (Kennedy)'s defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Devon Epps was especially locked on to Thomas Jefferson's QB and sacked him twice. Epps is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Armstrong (Kennedy) got some further help from Donzell Jones-Teal: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Poquoson against Southampton on Friday as the squad secured a 42-6 victory. Considering the Islanders have won eight contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
