Baseball Game Preview: Eastwood Troopers vs. Coronado Thunderbirds

Eastwood has won three straight games at home, while Coronado has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Troopers will host the Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Eastwood beat Franklin 5-2.

Meanwhile, Coronado got the win against Montwood on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-2. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Coronado got a great performance from Jaxon Baptist as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Baptist has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Coronado let Ben Wilson and Jayden Hernandez run wild. Wilson went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Hernandez went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Wilson has posted since back in March. Kaleb Guerrero was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Coronado has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Eastwood, their win bumped their record up to 16-9-1.
