Softball Game Preview: Astoria/VIT Rebels vs. Macomb Bombers

For the first time this season, Astoria/VIT will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to challenge the Macomb Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Astoria/VIT came up short against Camp Point Central on Thursday, falling 15-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.

D Chenoweth was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Macomb never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against West Prairie last Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Cyclones with a sharp 15-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bombers in their matchups with the Cyclones: they've now won four in a row.

Kendyl Danner was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Macomb got a massive performance out of Olivia Whitney, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Lauren Schmalshof was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Astoria/VIT's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Macomb, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Astoria/VIT might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Macomb in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Astoria/VIT avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
