MaxPreps Medium Schools Player of the Year: Riley Pint, Aquinas

When you throw a ball 100 mph on the radar gun in the state playoffs, Major League Baseball scouts take notice. But the fact of the matter is, Riley Pint has been on every scout's radar since his freshman season at Aquinas.

Pint has been regarded as one of the top pitchers in the Class of 2016 for most of his high school career and he left no doubt during his senior season. Leading Aquinas to the Kansas Class 5A state championship, Pint threw 100 mph pitches during the first round of the state playoffs.

That was just one of the highlights for Pint, who finished the season with a 5-1 record and 87 strikeouts in just 49 innings pitched. He also was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the No. 4 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft.

Pint has been showered with honors throughout his career, as he has twice earned the Gatorade State Player of the Year honor and was named both the pitcher and player of the year in Class 5A by the Kansas Coaches Association.

Pint has now also been honored as the MaxPreps Medium Schools Player of the Year.

MaxPreps Medium Schools Coach of the Year: Michael Thibodeaux, Teurlings Catholic

According to a story in the Baton Rouge Advocate, Teurlings Catholic coach Michael Thibodeaux set four goals for his team last summer: 1. Win the District 4-4A championship, 2. Earn the program's first national ranking, 3. Exceed the school's previous win total of 30 games and 4. Win the Class 4A state championship.

Lofty goals indeed, yet Thibodeaux's team met every one of them. The Rebels finished the season with the Class 4A state championship (and the district title), won 35 games and ended the year ranked No. 8 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

Along the way, Thibodeaux's team twice defeated St. Thomas More (Lafayette), which beat Teurlings Catholic in the state finals in 2015. Teurlings Catholic also gained national attention by knocking off undefeated and nationally ranked Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.).

With those accomplishments, Thibodeaux is the MaxPreps Medium Schools Coach of the Year.

The MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American Team consists of players who competed for schools that belonged to state enrollment divisions that generally have between 1,000 and 2,000 students.
