Basketball Recap: South Sumter Takes a Loss

South Sumter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Weeki Wachee Hornets and fell 58-18. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 568th, while the Hornets are ranked 225th).

Weeki Wachee found their leader in sophomore Joelys Rodriquez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists. Those ten assists set a new season-high mark for Rodriquez. Genesis Beal was another key player, putting up 18 points.

South Sumter's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Weeki Wachee, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

South Sumter will square off against East Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Ridge will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something South Sumter surely won't give up without a fight. As for Weeki Wachee, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-22 win against Central on the 14th.
