Boardman hadn't done well against Canfield recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Cardinals 3-2. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 5-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Ryan Neifer looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tyler Kirlik was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tommy Varley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Boardman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive games.

Boardman's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Canfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Boardman will head out to take on Poland Seminary at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Canfield, they will welcome Columbiana at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
