Basketball Recap: Cahokia Triumphs

After losing to Jersey the last time they met, Cahokia decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cahokia Comanches escaped with a win on Friday against the Jersey Panthers by the margin of a single free throw, 51-50.

Leading Cahokia to victory were Corrion Raiford and Cameron Edwards. Raiford went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Edwards posted 13 points. Raiford is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. C'Narri Griffin was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Jersey's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Brunaugh, who earned 18 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was John Paul Vogel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Cahokia's record now sits at 9-13. As for Jersey, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

Cahokia will take on Carbondale at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Cahokia is facing Carbondale at the right time seeing as Carbondale is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Jersey, they will challenge Highland at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st.
