Preview: Walled Lake Western Warriors vs. Avondale Yellowjackets
The Walled Lake Western Warriors will be playing at home against the Avondale Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Walled Lake Western can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They really took it to Thurston for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-0 victory at home. Given Walled Lake Western's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Thurston is ranked 346th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walled Lake Western relied on the efforts of Donovan Triplett, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and Gavin Noonan, who rushed for 93 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries. Noonan was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards. Dominick Thompson got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Avondale entered their tilt with Holly with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Avondale came out on top against Holly by a score of 34-24 on Friday.
The win makes it two in a row for Walled Lake Western and bumps their season record up to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Avondale, their win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-1.
