Basketball Recap: Highland Prep Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against ALA - Ironwood, Highland Prep was happy to have turned things around on Monday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 56-55 victory over the Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs. For the Honey Badgers, this counts as revenge for the 60-56 win the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Aeden Calini went supernova for Highland Prep, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most rebounds Calini has posted since back in December of 2023. Gerrard Agbiwe was another key player, putting up ten points.

Despite the loss, Rancho Solano Prep still got an impressive performance from Matthew Quinlan, who posted 24 points. That was a full 43.6% of Rancho Solano Prep's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Larrabee, who put up 14 points and five rebounds.

Highland Prep pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Rancho Solano Prep, they moved to 5-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Highland Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-30 win against River Valley on the 10th. As for Rancho Solano Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 72-48 victory against North Valley Christian Academy on the 11th.
