Softball Recap: Aldine Mustangs vs. Spring Lions

Aldine had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-18 to make it four. They came up short against the Spring Lions, falling 20-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 back in March.

As for Spring, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games.

For Spring's part, Mikayla Zepeda looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Zepeda has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hailey Jones-Calais was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Maleah Grounds, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

As of now, neither Aldine nor Spring have any future games scheduled.
