Basketball Recap: Academy at the Lakes Takes a Loss

Academy at the Lakes lost against Hernando back in January of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Academy at the Lakes Wildcats might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Hernando Leopards an easy 65-40 win. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

It was another big night for Daniel Merizalde, who went 8 of 12 en route to 20 points and seven rebounds for Hernando. The match was Merizalde's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sam Jackson, who posted eight points in addition to nine rebounds and five assists.

Academy at the Lakes' record now sits at 3-6. As for Hernando, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy at the Lakes will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hernando at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Hernando, they will be taking part in a tournament against Bishop McLaughlin Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hernando's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
