Softball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 11-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Bishop Hartley Hawks, falling 12-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Stars of the 19-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2019.

As for Bishop Hartley, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games.

For Bishop Hartley's part, Addison Harsh (2028) spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits.

On the hitting side, Bishop Hartley let Ellie Thomas (2027) and Ysa Vega (2027) run wild. Thomas (2027) got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Vega (2027) went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Vega (2027) a new career-high. Jasmine Wooten (2027) was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI.

Coincidentally, Centennial and Bishop Hartley will both be playing Newark Catholic the next time they take the field. The Hawks will host the Green Wave at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Stars will play them later in the day, at 1:00 p.m.
