Baseball Recap: Triton Comes Up Short

Triton extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-10. They lost 9-0 to the Cumberland Colts. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 6, 2024, but that streak is no more.

Triton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Definis, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Definis has hit this season.

As for Cumberland, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Cumberland's side, the result came thanks to Jonathan Rossi's shutout, as he gave up just nine hits and racked up ten Ks. Rossi has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kameron Fiorani was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Cumberland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Josh Bodine, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Triton will take on Camden County Vo-Tech at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Cumberland, they will face off against West Deptford at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
