Softball Game Preview: Mica Mountain Thunderbolts vs. Catalina Foothills Falcons

The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will head out to take on the Catalina Foothills Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mica Mountain will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Mica Mountain can't be too worried about heading out to take on Catalina Foothills: they just beat Douglas at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Thunderbolts walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Bulldogs on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Thunderbolts in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Lily Oswalt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dezeree Lopez Taylor, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Johnson wasn't the only one making solid contact: Mica Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Catalina Foothills hadn't done well against Sahuaro recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Falcons came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 7-4. The Falcons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kailin Habben was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Makena Thompson, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Mica Mountain now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Catalina Foothills, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-10.
