Basketball Game Preview: El Cerrito Gauchos vs. San Lorenzo Grizzlies

The El Cerrito Gauchos will face off against the San Lorenzo Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

El Cerrito is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Fremont just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 71-52 bruising from the Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Gauchos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 650th, while the Tigers are ranked 199th).

While San Lorenzo didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Tennyson on Friday as San Lorenzo made off with a 70-45 win. That 25 point margin sets a new team best for the Grizzlies this season.

San Lorenzo pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for El Cerrito, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

El Cerrito strolled past San Lorenzo in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 78-62. Will El Cerrito repeat their success, or does San Lorenzo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
