Football Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Comes Up Short

Newman Grove/St. Edward lost against Lutheran-Northeast back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Panthers took a blow against the Eagles, falling 62-20.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nolan Werts, who rushed for 58 yards and one touchdown. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 56 yards.

Lutheran-Northeast's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Feddern, who picked up 170 receiving yards and three scores. That's the most receiving yards Feddern has posted since back in August of 2024. Lutheran-Northeast also got a significant boost from Teagan Degroot, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Lutheran-Northeast, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newman Grove/St. Edward will challenge Winside at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lutheran-Northeast, they will host Hartington-Newcastle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
